Clueless to Congress in California's 44th District

When the movie Clueless was released in the Summer of 1995, I took my girls to the movies to see it.  It was a fun, beguiling teen movie and my kids loved it and I enjoyed it too.  It made me laugh and I loved the fashionista teenagers.  Cher (Alicia Silverstone) and Dionne (Stacey Dash) were best friends and everyone wanted to be their friend.

Present day, Dionne (Stacey Dash) has decided to run for Congress in California.  That is such a Dionne thing to do.  But this is not a movie, it’s not 1995 and in real life Dionne is really Stacey Dash.

Stacey Dash started her political career working as a commentator on Fox News in 2014.  Fox suspended her in December 2015 because she cursed on-air while sharing her thoughts on then President Barack Obama's speech on terrorism and later fired her as their political contributor.  During her time at Fox, Dash found her Republican conservative voice and often made snide controversial remarks about Black people and other minorities.  Aside from former President Obama, she has targeted many other Black and Brown people.  In January 2016 she appeared on Fox & Friends and suggested that Black History Month should be eliminated as well as BET, the BET Awards and the NAACP awards.  She said that we should not have TV channels geared towards African Americans if we don’t want segregation.

So, it’s an interesting plan of Dash’s to choose to run for Congress in California’s 44th District.  This district is heavily Democratic, and the current Representative is Democrat Rep. Nanette Barragán.  She is running in a district that includes Compton, Watts, San Pedro and North Long Beach.  Plus, this district voted overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton.

This, however, is not a reason to laugh or dismiss Stacey Dash.  Remember when Donald Trump decided that he would run for the highest office in the land, President of the United States?  Many laughed and thought it was a joke.  The joke was on everyone who did not take his candidacy seriously.  Some didn't vote in the presidential election, some voted for anyone who did not have the name Hillary Clinton.  Trump is now President of the United States of America.

If the people in California’s 44th District laugh and get back to their normal lives, on Election Day, guess who can be the next Congress Woman of California’s 44th District, Stacey Dash!
