Is Trump envious of Chinese President Xi Jinping's recent power grab

On  February 13, 2018, I wrote a blog titled Technology Leaders: Are China and Japan Leaders of the Tech World.  Within this Blog I hypothesized about President Obama serving as President for a longer term.  My quote was, “Maybe we need one leader over a long period of time.  Someone like President Obama whose intellect could lead this nation to super greatness.  I would vote for that.  In my lifetime, President Obama has certainly been the SMARTEST person we have called POTUS.”

Fast forward a few weeks later, February 25, 2018, to be exact; one of the top news story was, China sets stage for Xi to stay in office indefinitely.  World News responded with questions and what does it mean for China.  Also mentioned was that not everyone in China welcomed the move.  It was merely a proposal.

Fast forward yet again to March 4, 2018.  According to CNN, behind closed doors at Mar-a-Largo Trump praised the Chinese president’s power grab and said he wouldn’t mine trying it himself.  President Xi is an authoritarian figure, so it’s not a surprise that Trump would loudly and boldly admire and praise this man.  He has a history of showing his affection for leaders such as Putin, Duterte (Philippine’s President) and now Xi.

Hold up!! No, really, hold that thought!  Trump for President of the United States of America indefinitely?  Trump and his administration are embroiled in a litany of embarrassing foils.  Then there is the ongoing investigation by Robert Mueller regarding perhaps impeachable offenses because of his contacts with Russia and collusion in the Presidential Election and a host of other illegal acts committed by Trump and others in and out of his administration.  He may not serve a full four-year term much less given the opportunity to stay forever.

My comments about former President Obama staying in office serving as President for a long period of time was mostly because of the work he did as President.  Obama is a true intellectual who would certainly lead the United States to grand accomplishments.  Though, he did not get everything done in the eight years that he served, most Americans feel confident that he would have gotten it all done if he had more time.  Even those on the Right who dislike him, are enjoying a few of the laws passed because of him.

Some things in politics should be left alone.  If changing laws to affect one’s viewpoint, you must remember that those changes may also work against you personally.  We live in a democracy and laws are voted in by the People for the People.
